Police in New Zealand said Friday that the bodies found in suitcases bought at an online auction last week were those of two children, and they have begun investigating the suspected murder of the two youth.

Police launched the homicide inquiry in Auckland after the remains were found by a family going through the contents of a storage locker they had purchased unseen.
The family are not believed to be connected to the deaths.

Det. Insp. Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said Thursday that the two children appeared to be of primary school age and had been dead for some time. He added the suitcases had been in storage for some time as well. There was also no information immediately provided as of Thursday as to how the children died or if there were any suspects.
