York Regional Police announced 14 charges of second-degree murder against Kenneth Law on Monday, the Ontario man who sold and shipped sodium nitrite online and was responsible for the death of 14 Canadian victims identified earlier this year.
“Evidence has come in that supports the charge of second-degree murder,” Insp. Simon James said during a press conference. “I can’t speak to that evidence at this time to preserve the investigation.”
The victims in Ontario were both male and female, ranging between the ages of 16 and 36 years old. James said more than one victim was under the age of 18.
The charges come in addition to the 14 previous charges of counselling or aiding suicide laid previously against the 57-year-old in August.
James said investigators believe more than 1,200 packages were sent out to 40 countries globally and around 160 packages were sent across Canada alone. Authorities in the U.K., U.S., Italy, Australia and New Zealand have launched investigations. Global’s Sean O’Shea reports.
