The Grey Cup runneth over; it’s full. It's the oldest professional football championship in North America, first awarded in 1909. It predates the Super Bowl's iconic Vince Lombardi trophy by 57 years.

Nine rows and 12 columns take up the entire 34-inch barrel on Canada’s legendary sports trophy for the Canadian Football League (CFL), with more than 3,000 champions immortalized.

Until 2021.

Global's Miranda Anthistle speaks to CFL historian Paul Woods to learn the history of the Grey Cup and more, ahead of the big game's return Sunday night as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
