Russia pounded cities and energy facilities across Ukraine with around 100 missiles on Tuesday, causing widespread power outages in what Kyiv said was the heaviest wave of missile strikes in nearly nine months of the war.

There was no immediate word of casualties, but energy was knocked out in several areas during attacks that began as Western countries at the G20 sought agreement on a statement condemning Russia’s invasion following a video address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Later that day, Zelenskyy warned in a video address that Russian missiles hit Poland — a NATO country — in what he said was a "significant escalation" of the conflict.

"The longer Russia feels impunity, the more threats there will be to anyone within reach of Russian missiles. To fire missiles at NATO territory! This is a Russian missile attack on collective security! This is a very significant escalation. We must act," Zelenskyy said.

UPDATE: Poland's Prime Minister Andrzej Duda has since stated the missile which struck his country was likely fired by Ukraine’s air defences.
