“Hero of Russia”: Mourners lay flowers at Alexei Navalny's grave after Moscow funeral

Thousands of people came to the Borisovskoye cemetery in Moscow, Russia, to pay their respects to opposition politician Alexei Navalny on Sunday, two days after he was buried.

A quickly moving line of mourners laid down flowers that stretched over 500 metres outside the cemetery gate, with more people coming all the time.

"The pain is unbearable," one of the mourners said. "(I came) to pay my respects — to honour, to bow before a brave man with whom our hopes were connected for a better future, for fighting corruption, for fair courts."

"Alexei Navalny is the hero of Russia and simply a good, bright man, like a sun," another woman said, with her husband adding "He was like a friend to us."
