Health regulators in the United Kingdom have approved a vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca which is easier to distribute than the Pfizer-BioNTech shots currently being rolled out.
The pharmaceutical giant has pledged to make 1.3 billion doses available at cost to low and middle-income countries and distribution will start on January 4.
It comes as cases in the UK surge to new highs driven by a new, highly contagious variant of the virus.

Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands reports London, the UK.
