Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson says the pollution price will remain in place for other forms of home heating, despite an exemption for Canadians heating their homes with heating oil.

“There will be no more carve-outs coming,” he said on his way to cabinet on Tuesday.

Cabinet ministers have faced heat in recent days from premiers and the federal opposition for the policy, which primarily benefits residents in Atlantic Canada.

Premiers across the country have called the federal carbon price exemption on home heating oil unfair.

Home heating oil is still used by almost one-third of households in Atlantic Canada, a far higher proportion than the rest of Canada.
