Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called upon Polish leaders and representatives of the European Union (EU) to convene with him at the Ukraine-Poland border for talks about the repeated and ongoing blockades put on by Polish farmers.

Throughout the week, Polish farmers have blocked border crossings and roads as a protest against “unfair competition.” Demonstrators have even opened railway cars on Polish roads, letting Ukrainian grain spill out.

In a video shared Wednesday, Zelenskyy expressed his concern that the blockades “threaten deliveries to our boys on the front line” — amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war — and that he has even noticed “pro-Putin slogans” at the protests. Kyiv has expressed anger at the demonstrations and says they hamper Ukraine’s war effort against Russia.

“We should not humiliate either Ukrainian or Polish farmers. We need unity. We need solutions between us, Ukraine and Poland, and at the level of the whole of Europe,” Zelenskyy said.

As well as in India, farmers have been protesting for weeks across Europe. Workers are calling for less bureaucracy linked to the European Union's Common Agriculture Policy and a loosening of the bloc's environmental rules.
