Months after a man in the United States received the world’s first full face and double hand transplant, doctors are only now calling it a success.
Joe DiMeo was 20 years old when his life changed, for the first time. After surviving a car accident, he was left with burns to 80 percent of his body and the skin on his hands and face had melted.
After finally finding a donor last August, doctors attempted what had never been successfully done before - giving someone a new face and two new hands.
Al Jazeera's Leah Harding has the story.
