World leaders "can't stay neutral" over Afghanistan following the Taliban's sudden ban on female university students, says a former United Nations youth representative.

Aisha Khurram, Afghan Youth Rep to the UN for 2019, told Sky News it was "absurd" for the world to stand by and watch with "empty words" and sanctions which only "punish civilians".

She said the country is losing a generation of educated woman and the Taliban is restricting women's basic rights.
