More than 219 million people have been infected with COVID-19 since 2019 - and more than four million of them have died.
The virus has also cut a swath through the world’s economies, sending many countries into high inflation and eliminating many jobs across continents.
Now, the World Health Summit is under way in Berlin, with the world’s top scientists, medics and ministers working through what they see as the next big challenges and debating what new measures to take against a virus with the continuing ability to mutate into more dangerous forms.

Al Jazeera’s Dominic Kane reports from Berlin, Germany.
