Hours after the last US soldiers leave Afghanistan, President Joe Biden declared the war ‘over.’
The war had killed 3,500 US and allied soldiers, 66,000 Afghan military and police personnel, 51,000 Taliban fighters, and more than 47,000 civilians.
But in the same speech Biden announced that the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan and other countries will continue.
He referred to the US's 'over the horizon capabilities' against the Taliban. But what exactly did he mean?
Is the US going to continue its highly controversial drone program in Afghanistan? And, if so, is the war really over?
