In the United States, Wednesday night saw Donald Trump's rivals clash at the second Republican debate to determine the party's next presidential candidate – though Mr Trump opted not to attend.

The seven candidates taking part in the debate, which was hosted by Fox Business Network, included former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, current Florida governor Ron de Santis and Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence. Trump is still the clear frontrunner in the polls to become the Republican presidential candidate.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has built his campaign around criticizing Trump, accused him of hiding from voters.

For more we’re joined by DW’s William Glucroft who talks us through the highlights of the debate.
