Russia's election commission says Vladimir Putin has been re-elected as president with 87% of the vote. The poll – held over the weekend – followed a crackdown on political opposition, leaving Mr Putin with no meaningful rivals for the post. This was one of the factors that led EU and US officials to describe the contest as neither free nor fair. In his victory speech, the Russian president said he would now focus on Ukraine – two years after a full-scale invasion that was expected to last only a few days.
