White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre reaffirmed the Biden Administration's support for the Japanese Olympic Committee's plan to proceed with the Tokyo Games, despite calls for cancellation amid the Asian country's low COVID-19 vaccination rates.
A major newspaper, Japan's Asahi Shimbun, called for the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday to be cancelled, with the games set to open in less than two months.
"We respected the decision to delay the games last summer and we understand the careful consideration the Japanese Olympic Committee are weighing as they prepare for the Tokyo Olympics just coming up right around the corner," said Jean-Pierre.
