Several members of India's governing Bharatiya Janata party have been killed in Indian-administered Kashmir in the past year.
The most recent death was on Wednesday last week.
Rakesh Pandit was shot dead in Pulwama district by unidentified gunmen while visiting a friend.
He was among at least 17 BJP members killed in the region in the past year.
Since 2019, violence has increased in the region claimed by both India and Pakistan after the Indian government revoked Kashmir’s autonomy, including the right to its own constitution and ability to make laws on matters except defence, communications and foreign affairs.
It also enforced a strict curfew and shut down telecommunications to stop protests.
Al Jazeera’s Laura Burdon-Manley reports.
