In the US, the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court has given this key political institution a conservative majority for years to come. The Senate approved her nomination by 52 votes to 48. Her appointment was opposed by congressional democrats. Barrett is the third conservative justice to be appointed to the Supreme Court during Donald Trump's presidency.
