WE Charity co-founders Craig and Marc Kielburger testified before the House of Commons ethics committee on Monday, after the brothers suggested they might not accept a summons to appear unless a list of conditions were met.

The committee continues to scrutinize a now-cancelled Canada federal contract to have WE manage a student services grant program, despite the charity’s close ties to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family.

In a heated exchange between the brothers and Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre, the MP questioned why Craig sent a LinkedIn note to Ben Chin, one of Trudeau’s top advisers, thanking him for his “kindness” in helping shape their program with the government. Poilievre demanded to know if Chin played a role in establishing a now-defunct government program with WE Charity during the pandemic, with Craig stating he was not aware.

The brothers’ appearance came after a fresh spat broke out between the Kielburgers and the MPs who want to grill them about the organization they founded.
