WATCH: Why people can get infected with COVID-19 right after vaccination

Why can people still get infected with COVID-19 shortly after being vaccinated against the disease? Dr. Kimberly Manning of Grady Memorial Hospital explains that it takes two weeks or so for full protection to kick in after getting one dose of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine or the second and final dose of Pfizer's or Moderna's. In the meantime, while your body is still in the process of generating protective antibodies, it's still possible to become infected. She emphasized that none of the approved vaccines is 100 percent effective, but added that the chance that a vaccinated person would get sick enough to require hospitalization is "almost zero."
