The Supreme Court on June 14 struck down a Trump-era ban on “bump stocks,” which are devices that enable semi-automatic weapons to fire continuously, similar to machine guns, which are illegal.

The initial ban on the gun accessory came in response to the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, in which weapons equipped with bump stocks were used to kill 60 people and injure hundreds more. The event remains the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

On average, the U.S. has seen a steady increase in the number of mass shootings each year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
