WATCH: Vaccine passports face resistance in Georgia, despite precedent

William Brangham spoke with local public media reporters in Georgia, Missouri and Tennessee about the challenges for vaccine rollouts in their regions. Ellen Eldridge of Georgia Public Broadcasting said that Georgia Governor Brian Kemp recently tweeted his opposition to the idea of “vaccine passports,” a potential tool that would allow residents to prove they’ve been protected against COVID-19. Eldridge noted that proof of vaccination is “not a new idea” — particularly when it comes to international travel — but that in the context of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States, this concept has become an emotional political issue.
