PBS NewsHour Anchor Judy Woodruff discussed the “blatant overt racism displayed by these rioters” with White House Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor on Feb. 11 as House impeachment managers continued to present evidence for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.

Lawmakers were forced to run for their lives from racists who supported Trump, Alcindor said. “In the future, this violence could just be the beginning.”

Echoing statements from members of Congress, Woodruff said Trump still holds influence with “millions of Americans.” The Jan. 6 attack is now “part of our history,” she said. “We are watching the history of America. It’s not just Jan. 6. It’s what America does about it afterward.”
