Lead House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin, D-Maryland, delivered an emotional testimony recounting his experience on Jan. 6, the day after he buried his 25-year-old son Tommy, who died by suicide.

Rep. Raskin said his daughter and son-in-law accompanied him to the U.S. Capitol for support that day, when a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed the building.

“I told [my daughter] how sorry I was, and I promised her that it would not be like this again the next time she came back to the Capitol with me. And you know what she said? She said, ’Dad, I don’t want to come back to the Capitol.’”

The Senate is holding an impeachment trial to examine former President Donald Trump’s culpability in the attack. Many Republicans have said the trial should not go forward because Trump is no longer in office, an argument that is a key piece of Trump’s defense, but Democrats are arguing to proceed.
