“It was a physical manifestation of these years of completely disregarding some aspects of reality and today it was disregarding the reality of what they themselves were doing to their country,” PBS NewsHour's Lisa Desjardins told PBS NewsHour anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff after pro-Trump mobs stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as lawmakers were gathering to count Electoral College votes. Desjardins, who was reporting from inside the Capitol, described how the people who stormed in the building were violent toward police officers, but told her they did not believe in violence.
Woodruff noted that the claims of election fraud by President Donald Trump and his supporters are unsubstantiated. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, D-Mn., tweeted that she is drawing up Articles of Impeachment for the President, just 14 days before he leaves office.
