During a news conference held by President Joe Biden after his meeting in Geneva with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the PBS NewsHour’s Yamiche Alcindor asked if Biden made any “ultimatums” regarding ransomware and cyberattacks from Russian soil.

Biden stated that he doesn’t believe Putin’s government was involved in the recent ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline.

“I don’t think they planned it in this case,” he said.

The recent Colonial Pipeline hack was traced back to Russian soil on May 13, making it a major topic during the first meeting between the leaders with Biden as president.

Biden went on to say that we’ll have to “find out” if Russia chooses to act against the hackers and cautioned against treating them as government agents, saying that Russia could do the same to us if criminals based in the U.S. attacked Russia’s oil industry.
