Nikki Haley celebrated her second place finish in New Hampshire against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday and made the case that her GOP rival could not deliver a presidential victory against President Joe Biden in November.
“With Donald Trump, Republicans have lost almost every competitive election,” Haley said to a crowd of supporters in Concord, New Hampshire.
“The worst kept secret in politics is how badly the Democrats want to run against Donald Trump. They know Trump is the only Republican in the country who Joe Biden can defeat,” she added.
Haley argued that Trump attracted “chaos” and was prone to “senior moments” that suggested the 77-year-old former president had lost some of his mental acuity.
“With Donald Trump, you have one bout of chaos after another. This court case, that controversy, this tweet, that senior moment. You can't fix Joe Biden’s chaos with Republican chaos,” Haley said.
Haley also made light of a speech by Trump where he had confused Haley with former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. She said she had called for mental competency tests for political candidates over the age of 75 and suggested that if Trump was as able as she, then he should debate her – something the former president has so far refused to do with his Republican rivals.
“If he thinks that, then he should have no problem standing on a debate stage with me,” Haley said.
The former South Carolina governor’s quips about age were not reserved only for Trump — she also used her speech to pounce on Biden and make the case for her electability.
“The first party to retire its 80-year-old candidate is going to be the party that wins this election. And I think it should be the Republicans that win this election.”
