Attorney Jenna Ellis, who helped Donald Trump in his bid to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia, has pleaded guilty to a reduced felony charge of aiding and abetting false statements and writings, in a plea deal with Georgia prosecutors.

Standing before a judge in an Atlanta courtroom on Tuesday, a tearful Ellis expressed "deep remorse" for her actions, claiming she had been misled about the election.

“What I did not do, but should have done, Your Honor, was to make sure that the facts the other lawyers alleged to be true, were in fact true,” Ellis said.

As part of the plea deal Ellis, 38, will be sentenced to five years of probation, to perform 100 hours of community service and pay $5,000 in restitution. She is the fourth defendant in the case to enter into a plea deal for attempting to overturn the election results. Attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell both struck deals with prosecutors last week.

They are among 19 people, including former president Trump, who were initially charged with violating Georgia's anti-racketeering law.
