Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday, a day that leading Republicans and other featured attendees were focused on the themes of safety and immigration.
In his speech, Carson addressed Trump's many scandals and indictments, as well as the recent assassination attempt against him, and cast him as the target of concerted efforts to hurt him.
"First they tried to ruin his reputation, and he's more popular now than ever. ... And then last weekend, they tried to kill him and there he is over there alive and well," Carson said. "I have no doubt that God lowered a shield of protection over President Trump."
During the convention, delegates will adopt a party platform and Trump will formally accept the Republican nomination for president. On Monday, Trump named Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate.
