During the June 27 CNN Presidential Debate, President Biden said that presidential historians have voted and determined that his rival, former President Donald Trump was “the worst in all of American history.”
“Look it up. Go online. 159-58, don’t hold me to the exact number, presidential historians. They’ve had meetings, and they voted who was the worst president in American history,” Biden said. “From best to worst. They said he was the worst in all of American history. That’s a fact.”
PBS News’ fact-checking partners, PolitiFact, checked this claim and found it to be true. The 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey, which was released in February and collected responses from 154 presidential historians ranked the two debaters. “The survey ranked Biden as the 14th best president in U.S. history, and put Trump last,” PolitiFact found.
The debate was the first time the two faced off this election season. It was also the first debate between a sitting and former president.
