The skies of Sydney were lit up on Friday with fireworks and a sea of lights as the Vivid Festival made its return for the first time since 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For 23 nights, the iconic Sydney Opera House and other landmarks will be immersed in a sea of colours, shining artwork inspired by Australia's landscape and First Nations culture onto the buildings.
The festival attracted more than 2.4 million domestic and international visitors in 2019 and is Australia's largest event.
