President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that a “real war” was being waged on Russia as he marked Victory Day in Moscow, accusing the West of “Russophobia.”

Russia held a scaled-down parade in Red Square under tight security, following a series of drone attacks that Moscow has blamed on Ukraine.

“A real war is once again being waged against our homeland,” Putin said.

“The Western globalist elites, however, still preach about their exceptionalism. They are pitting people against each other and dividing society, provoking bloody conflicts and coups, sowing hatred, Russophobia, aggressive nationalism, destroying the traditional family values that make people human.”

Putin hailed Russian forces in Ukraine as heroes who were fighting for the country’s future against a West that, he said, had forgotten the decisive role played by the Soviet Union in defeating Nazi Germany.
