An amateur adventurer has tracked down the location of a mysterious metal monolith, despite local authorities’ attempts to keep the location secret.
David Surber went into the canyons in Utah’s Red Rock Country desert, using coordinates from amateur trackers on Reddit, in the hopes of finding the statue.

“Due to the uncertainty and the fact that it took an hour and a half of searching multiple slot canyons, I felt very at peace when I had finally arrived,” he said Wednesday.

“Overall it was an amazing journey, even if it is just three pieces of stainless steel riveted together and tucked away for the past five years. I believe it was something positive for people to rally behind and a great distraction during these turbulent times.

The creator of the monolith remains a mystery.

Utah state wildlife officials said they would not disclose the exact location of the statue for safety reasons.
