The United States military has shot down what it claims was a high-altitude Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic Ocean.
The Chinese government has expressed outrage, claiming it was a weather balloon that had blown off course.
The incident, which saw the craft travel at high altitude across large swaths of the continental US, has sparked a serious diplomatic row, with the US Secretary of State cancelling a planned visit to Beijing.
There is also growing criticism in the US over how President Biden handled the incursion of the craft into US airspace.

Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane reports from Washington, DC.
