The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, is expected to announce that he will run for the Republican party nomination for president.

Mr DeSantis is seen as Mr Trump’s biggest rival for the Republican vote with several Republican lawmakers and right-wing media rallying behind him after the midterms.

Under his watch, Florida has become a hotbed for so-called anti-woke laws such as the heavily-criticised "Don't Say Gay" bill and a ban on teaching critical race theory.
