US confidence in de-escalating Russia-Ukraine crisis wanes as Biden puts troops on high alert

Despite U.S. President Joe Biden's hope to avoid a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine, American diplomats and military troops are now on heightened alert, as confidence in de-escalating the crisis wanes.

The Pentagon has already put thousands of troops on alert for potential deployment. If Russia invades Ukraine, American reinforcements would be sent to NATO's eastern flank – Poland, Romania and the Baltic states.
