US and Russia trade barbs over food insecurity

The World Food Programme has seen its costs increase by nearly 50 percent in the last year and funding has not kept pace.
The US secretary of state announced $362m in funding for Haiti and 11 African countries, while criticising Russia at the UN for pulling out of the Black Sea grain deal.
Russia, which recently promised free grain to six visiting African leaders, responded that the US and West were spending more on arms for Ukraine than assistance for the global south.
