The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has taken robust steps toward neutrality, but some issues persist, according to the person leading an internal review of the agency, former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna.

“There’s always room for improvement and some issues related to neutrality persist,” Colonna said Monday from the UN headquarters in New York City.

Colonna said Monday that Israel has yet to provide evidence for its accusation that hundreds of staff with the UN agency are members of terrorist group Hamas. A separate investigation by internal UN investigators is looking into allegations against 12 UNWRA staff.

UNWRA provides education, health and aid to millions of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
