“Oh my god, he’s out!” These were the words five-year-old Sienna Lewis heard before she was attacked by a Black Russian Terrier, knocked to the ground, and bitten multiple times on her legs and arms. Her mother Kyrstie says it was only the heroic actions taken by Sienna’s grandmother that stopped the dog’s savage assault. It’s just one of an increasing number of dog attacks that’s plaguing communities across the country. This week Sunday looks at why we may be losing control of our canine companions and what can be done to curb what one researcher describes as a growing public health risk.
