Ukraine War: US astronaut returns to Earth in a Russian capsule

A change-of-command ceremony between the US and Russia has taken place on the International Space Station.

Despite mounting tensions between the two countries, NASA has repeatedly reaffirmed that it continues to work closely with the Russian space agency.

ISS commander Anton Shkaplerov returned to Earth with US astronaut Mark Vande Hei, who had spent a year in space.

Before leaving, Shkaplerov said: “People have problems on Earth, but in orbit we are one crew. A symbol of the friendship and cooperation in space.”
