Ukraine president rebuts criticisms he is downplaying threat of Russian invasion

Despite tensions over a potential Russian invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is urging allies not to cause panic by treating conflict as imminent.

But Zelensky is also rebutting criticisms that he's downplaying the threat, as allies still scramble to find a diplomatic solution. He says his country is ready to defend itself should the Kremlin order the 100,000 soldiers on the border to move into Ukraine.

"It's not that we aren't acting as if it isn't the highest level of threat," said Zelensky through a translator in a press conference. "We are getting ready for the high threats, but we understand the reality that we are in." Crystal Goomansingh reports from Kyiv.
