Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the West of what he calls 'abandoning diplomacy' when it comes to the war in Ukraine.
Lavrov, chairing a UN Security Council meeting, also blamed the West — particularly the US — for ‘a profound crisis’ in the UN system.
Russia currently holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Moscow is causing massive suffering and devastation in Ukraine.
Al Jazeera's diplomatic editor James Bays reports from the UN headquarters in New York City, the United States.
