U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday signed the post-Brexit trade deal with the European Union, just hours after MPs in the House of Commons approved it.

The deal comes just over a year after the House passed a bill to ratify the Brexit withdrawal agreement. On Jan. 31, 2020, the U.K.'s membership in the EU ended 47 years after it began.

Months after the departure, on Dec. 24, a new post-Brexit trade deal was announced to set out the terms of Britain's new relationship with the EU following their divorce. It will come into effect starting Jan. 1.
