United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain said during an update on Friday that there's been a "major breakthrough" in negotiations with the Detroit Three automakers amid the UAW strike.

"It's going to change the future of our union and the future of our industry," Fain declared. "We were about to shut down GM's largest automaker in Arlington, Texas. The company knew those members were about to walk immediately. And just that threat has provided a transformative win. GM has now agreed in writing to place their electric battery manufacturing under our national master agreement. We've been told for months that this is impossible."

"Our strike is working, but we're not there yet. We are making significant progress," Fain said.
