Turkey earthquake: Massive fire at Iskenderun Port extinguished, defence ministry says
Turkey’s defence ministry said Tuesday that a massive fire that had been burning at its southern Iskenderun Port has been extinguished.

Earlier in the day, thick black smoke could be seen coming from the port, where hundreds of shipping containers were set ablaze. The fire shut down operations and forced freight liners to divert vessels to other ports.

The fire broke out after a ruinous 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated large swaths of Turkey and Syria, killing thousands of people.

The defence ministry said the fire was put out with the help of the military’s helicopters and planes. It said it was not clear when the port would again be operational.
