President Arif Alvi on Wednesday proposed Nov 6 as date for general elections in the country.

In a letter written to Chief Election Commission Sikandar Sultan Raja, the president proposed Nov 6 as date for the general elections in the country.

“The National Assembly was dissolved by the president on the advice of the prime minister on August 9, 2023.

“WHEREAS Article 48(5) of the Constitution empowers and mandates the President "to appoint a date not later than ninety days from the date of the dissolution, for the holding of a general election to the Assembly," reads the president letter to CEC.

“WHEREAS in terms of Article 48(5) the general election to the National Assembly should be held by the eighty-ninth day of the date of dissolution of the National Assembly, i.e. Monday 6th Day of November 2023,” it added.

Sanaullah rules out possibility of PPP, PML-N alliance in general elections

Former interior minister Rana Sanaullah has ruled out the possibility of an alliance between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the upcoming general elections.

Interacting with a group of reporters here Wednesday, the PML-N leader hinted the two parties might agree to a seat adjustment formula on a limited level, but even such an electoral adjustment was highly unlikely.
