Buffalo Township, Pa., is mourning the loss of former fire chief Corey Comperatore, who was tragically killed while shielding his daughters during a shooting at a Trump campaign rally in Butler County on Saturday. The rally, held at the Butler Farm Show grounds, turned chaotic when gunfire erupted shortly after former president Donald Trump began his speech.

Comperatore was a beloved figure and former chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company. Witnesses and family members recounted how Comperatore immediately shielded his daughters from the bullets, sacrificing his own life to protect them during the chaos on Saturday.

In honor of Comperatore, the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department has draped his gear in black and displayed it as a memorial.

Governor Josh Shapiro has also ordered state flags to be flown at half-mast to honor the fallen hero.

The local community has rallied around the Comperatore family, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $151,000 so far to support them during this difficult time.
