Trump indictment "hugely significant" says legal expert

Following former U.S. president Donald Trump's indictment in the classified documents case, legal expert James Sample called the incident "hugely significant" on Friday.

Trump was indicted on Thursday over his alleged mishandling and withholding of classified documents and obstructing law enforcement efforts to retrieve them, according to multiple major U.S. media outlets and a post from Trump on social media.

Sample, who is a professor of constitutional law at Hofstra University, said this is the first time in American history a former president has been indicted.

"The walls around former President Trump are closing in from a legal perspective," he said. "These are very serious charges and they are also the kind of charges that if the federal prosecutors and the Department of Justice are bringing them, as they clearly now are, are likely to be particularly easy to prove."

In response, Trump posted a video online saying, "I'm an innocent man."

Plus, people in Seattle, Wash., reacted to the news, with some even calling the indictment a "dangerous moment" in U.S. history.
