Former U.S. president Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized his recent arraignment in New York to face 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree as an "insult to our country."

He called the indictment part of a "massive election interference" and said it came at a time when the "world is already laughing at us."

Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly assailed the investigation, has called the indictment “political persecution” and predicted it would damage Democrats in 2024. Trump’s lawyers have said the former president “did not commit any crime. We will vigorously fight this political prosecution in court.”

Trump also spoke Tuesday night about other cases he is facing including a lawsuit by New York Attorney General Letitia James and a potential case by Georgia's Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, criticizing each.

While Trump will be technically considered under arrest, he won't be handcuffed and he won’t sit in a jail cell, in part because parts of the courthouse will be cleared out for his arraignment — and because Trump is a former president with Secret Service protection.
