Lithuania’s foreign minister called for increased NATO spending over the weekend, warning that former U.S. President Donald Trump's comments were a “clear signal that Europe must do more."
Speaking on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Gabrielius Landsbergis said he was pleased to see Lithuania spending 2.77 per cent of its GDP on defence this year.
"These sort of messages do ring a bell in the United States, but also in Germany," he told Reuters.
Other EU governments had sharply criticized Trump for his warning that, as U.S. president, he would not defend countries that do not spend enough on their defence against a Russian attack.
