Prime Minister Justin Trudeau became the first Canadian head of government to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial on Thursday as he continues his trip in the country.
The memorial serves as the resting place for more than 250,000 victims. It's a solemn place not only for Rwandans but Canadians as well. It was a Canadian general Romeo Dallaire who was in command of the UN mission to the country in 1994 when the genocide was perpetrated against the minority Tutsis and the moderate Hutus. Estimates vary, but it's believed as many as 800,000 people perished in the genocide.
David Akin reports on what Trudeau did while visiting the memorial, and more on why he's visiting Rwanda in the first place.
